DIY Cardboard House from Toy Town
If you are looking for a simple idea for creative play, this cardboard house for kids is a perfect solution. Using basic materials, you can create a small world that looks like Toy Town – colorful, simple, and full of imagination.
This is a project you can easily make together with your child. It does not require special tools, and the final result is very satisfying. It can also become part of a bigger activity – building a whole town.
What You Need
- cardboard (for example a shipping box)
- scissors or craft knife (for adults)
- glue or tape
- paint (for example white + color for the roof)
- black marker
- paintbrush
- pencil
Step by Step
Step 1: Prepare a template of the House Base
Prepare cardboard and then draw the shape of the house and the roof separately. The wall sides can be, for example, 10 cm x 10 cm. You’ll need four such walls, two of which will have higher triangles for attaching the roof. You’ll also need a gluing tooth.

Step 2: Prepare the House Base
Cut out a simple house shape from cardboard. The easiest shape is a classic house with a triangular roof, just like in the photos.

Make sure all elements fit together and can be easily glued.
Step 3: Build the Structure
Bend the shape of the house in the black places of the marker.

Step 4: Connect the walls and roof
Connect the walls of the house using glue or tape.

Cut out doors and windows if you want or just paint them later. This is the moment when the structure starts to look like a real house.

Step 5: Paint the Walls and roof
Paint the house white (or another light color). This makes it look clean and aesthetic – like small buildings in Toy Town. Paint the roof in a color you like – for example blue or red, just like in the photos. This is an easy way to make each house look different. If you don’t cut the door, drawn it and windows.
Remember: They do not need to be perfect!

Let it dry.
Step 6: Done!
Your DIY cardboard house for kids is ready. You can make more houses and create a whole mini town.

Tips
- use thicker cardboard – the house will be more stable
- if you are working with a child, leave cutting for an adult
